Prank creates bomb scare at Mumbai Airport, lands Model in jail

Mumbai: A Mumbai model Kanchan Thakur was arrested for creating panic at Sahar Airport T2 on Thursday night. She asked the security to check her friend’s handbag as she had bomb in it, which was just a joke. The officials also registered FIR against Thakur.

The prank which was made for fun delayed the Al flight to Delhi for an hour. She was charged under imperil and causing inconvenience to the passengers. It could have caused her three years jail. Now she is out on bail. The incident took place around 8 pm on Thursday, Kanchan Thakur, a 27-year-old model, was standing in queue with her four friends to board Air India. After she passed the boarding gate it was her friends turn to pass the security check, she turned to security guard and asked him to check her friend’s handbag carefully as she had bomb in it. The security in panic called CISF and airport officials. She then had a huge argument with CISF.

One of her friend was going to meet her mother in Delhi, who was sick. It delayed her flight to Delhi. The Officials did not allow them to take the flight and checked all their baggages. They left after 10 pm which was an hour late as per scheduled departure time.

Thankur and her friends were told not to leave the city. CISF officials performed their duty according to Indian airports by first checking their baggage. Thakur again had a heated argument with the CISF and said when real terrorists walk into airports, they do nothing and when she just cracked a joke, they made it such a big issue,” said the police. Later, she was taken to Sahar police station.

Air India registered FIR saying, they want to teach them a lesson for creating panic and fear to general public.

All the four said they did not want to harm anyone. It was just a joke made for fun purpose. We did not knew it would turn into such a big issue, Said police.

They charged them for IPC section 505(1)(b), which says “whoever makes or circulates a “rumour” intending to cause fear or alarm to the public or to any of its section whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against public tranquility” have to go jail for three years.
