Kolkata, November 11: In a clear message to detractors of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in the Congress, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today held the victory of the ally in the by-elections as people’s mandate for the alliance between the two parties in West Bengal.
Maintaining that the message of voters was clear, the WBPCC president said, “It is a proof of people’s confidence in the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and their support for the Trinamool-Congress alliance.”
Talking to reporters after meeting state party functionaries, he said “The jote (alliance) is already there.
The results of the last few elections have proved that the people want the alliance (to continue).”
Praising the performance of Trinamool, which won all seven seats it contested, Mukherjee singled out the wresting of the Belgachia East seat here held since 1977 by late CPI-M stalwart Subhas Chakraborty and contested by his widow Ramala this time.
