Pranab to take oath; Team Anna to sit on fast today

Team Anna would sit on an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar from today on a day when Pranab Mukherjee will take oath as the 13th President.

Team Anna would sit on the hunger strike to press its demands for a strong Jan Lokpal Bill and a probe against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr Mukherjee and 13 Cabinet Ministers against whom the team has levelled corruption charges.

However, this time 75-year-old social activist Anna Hazare would not sit on the fast due to health problems. Key Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai would sit on hunger strike.

Politicians cutting across the party lines and several other people of the country respect Mr Mukherjee as ‘Chanakya’ of Indian politics but Team Anna has posted his name on its website in the list of ‘Janlokpal Ke Dushman’ (enemies of Janlokpal).

The team has said it would also release ”proof” of corruption against Mr Mukherjee and other Cabinet ministers tomorrow.

Mr Mukherjee won the Presidential election with 69.31 per cent votes; he polled 7,13,937 votes of the total 10,29,924 votes. His opponent P A Sangma had 3,15,987 votes or 30.69 per cent of the total votes.
Team Anna had demanded constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe against the Cabinet ministers against whom it has levelled corruption charges.

The government had rejected the demand terming the allegations as baseless and ‘politically motivated’.
