Pranab to resign from ministry on June 26

UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee has said he would resign form the Union Finance Ministry on June 26 before he starts campaigning for his run-up to the post of President.
Announcing this shortly after his visit to his ancestral home at Mirati in Kirnahar village here, Mr Mukhrejee said in two-three days time soon after he relinquishes his post as the finance minister, he would also resign from the Congress Working Committee.

The veteran Congressman, who reached Mirati at around 1430 hours by road from Kolkata, was accorded a grand public reception near his home with people queuing up on either side of the road, throwing flowers on his way.

Arrangement was made for the tribal people of the village for welcome his with their traditional dance.

The purpose of the visit, as described by Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee, was to seek the blessing of Mr Mukherjee’s elder sister Annapurna Devi.

The Congress leader, who was accompanied by West Bengal Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya, state Irrigation Minister and senior Congress leader Manas Bhunia, Congress leader Omprakash Mishra and other party workers, was presented with bouquet of flowers by the teachers of Birbhum Sibchandrapur High School from where he completed his school education and also by the members of the local club Kishor Samity of which Mr Mukhrejee is a founder member.
