Making it clear that he would not support UPA’s Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee, eminent lawyer and BJP Rajya Sabha member Ram Jethmalani has said that he remembered the dark days of Emergency when the Congress announced Pranab’s name as its Presidential candidate.
Speaking to the media at Taj Deccan here on Thursday, Jethmalani said that Pranab Mukherjee, who was a minister in Union cabinet during the Emergency days, kept quiet even on seeing the plight of the people. Stating that atrocities were committed during Emergency days with active involvement of Sanjay Gandhi, he recollected that Pranab Mukherjee had extended his total support to Emergency excesses. He said that Shah Commission constituted to go into Emergency excesses found fault with Pranab’s behavior. He said that courts remained inactive during Emergency days. He said that Pranab Mukherjee had written this in his book ‘The Congress History’.
Ram Jethmalani opined that the country was at the bottom in eradicating corruption. (NSS)
