Pranab asks Mamata to explain Lalgarh speech

New Delhi, August 13: Pranab Mukherjee on Friday sought a written explanation from the Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee on her speech in Lalgarh in West Bengal.

In her speech in the Lalgarh valley, Mamata had termed the killing of top ranking Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad’s encounter as “murder”.

Even the Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday in Lok Sabha had slammed Banerjee for her controversial rally in Lalgarh. He said that no one should support Maoists and the Government will not encourage anybody who does so.

The Bharatiya Janata Party as well had asked Mamata to clarify her stand on calling the killing of Azad as ‘murder’, when the government has already said that it was an encounter death.

Mamata on Monday in a rally at Lalgarh shared space with the PCPA leaders. She in her speech had said that the killing of Maoist leader Azad was not right.
