Hyderabad, January 14: The Praja Rajyam chief, Mr K Chiranjeevi, on Thursday promised to support the Congress government in the state in case of a threat to the government. He ruled out the possibility of a President’s rule in the state.
Mr Chiranjeevi’s meeting with the Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan this evening created a stir in political circles in view of the volatile political situation prevailing in the state. “We will stand by our promise (to support the government). But I don’t think such a need will arise,” Mr Chiranjeevi said after meeting the Governor.
The PR chief asserted that he called on the Governor only to wish him on the occasion of Sankranti and Pongal and there were no political motive. “It was a courtesy call. Of course, we discussed the present political scenario for a couple of minutes. We felt there will be no unrest,” he remarked.
Asked if the party would initiate disciplinary action against party MLAs, Ms Sobha Nagi Reddy and Mr Katsami Rami Reddy who participated in the fast by the former Kadapa MP, Mr Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in New Delhi, he said the party would seek explanation from them before taking action. “We will discuss the issue in the party in this regard,” Mr Chiranjeevi said.
