Praised Muslims, not Modi: Vastanvi

New Delhi, July 25: Sacked Vice chancellor of Darul Uloom Deoband University Ghulam Vastanvi has expressed disappointment reiterating that he never praised Narendra Modi’s work in Gujarat.

CNN-IBN: Your reaction to the fact that you have been sacked.

Ghulam Vastanvi: Sincerely speaking, it is sad, no doubt. The intentions of a man holding a high post are always noble and suddenly if a decision goes against him, then it is always disappointing.

CNN-IBN: What is the truth, did you praise Narendra Modi or not?

Ghulam Vastanvi: There is no question of me praising him at all. If you read my interview properly then you will realise that it was only about the development in Gujarat, the growth of Muslims in Gujarat. It is clearly mentioned that I did not give a clean chit to Modi.

CNN-IBN: That means you haven’t given a clean chit to Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots?

Ghulam Vastanvi: No, I have not and never will.

CNN-IBN: But you feel that between 2002 and 2011 the Muslims living in Gujarat have progressed?

Ghulam Vastanvi: What I mean to say is that the Muslims who worked hard progressed, but Modi has no role to play in it. After my statements, it came to my notice that because of Modi many Muslims failed to get jobs because of his injustice.

CNN-IBN: Now people say you’re nothing but a face of the Congress party.

Ghulam Vastanvi: I am neither a face nor a member of any political party. I do not intend to join any political party in the future.

CNN-IBN: All parties allege that most of the Muslims are involved in terrorist activities.

Ghulam Vastanvi: These are allegations made by political parties. It’s not just Muslims, in every society there are terrorists. That society which is involved in terrorism, according to me is not a good society.
