Hyderabad, July 29: Practicals outside the college campus claimed the life of a civil engineering student at Golconda today. The student was surveying the ground levels with the help of a levelling staff when it reportedly came in contact with an overhead high-tension wire leading to his electrocution.
The deceased, Mohd Mujeebuddin (20), was a BE (civil) third-year student of the Vasavi College of Engineering at Ibrahimbagh under the Golconda police station limits. He was a resident of Basheerbagh. His father, Wahaduddin, also a civil engineer, works in Riyadh, police said.
“Though the practicals are supposed to be conducted within the college, the third-year students were asked to conduct the survey on the main road outside the campus, ” Golconda police sub-inspector G Nagesh Kumar said.
“It is not known whether the aluminium staff held by Mujeebuddin touched the hightension wires or it attracted power,” Nagesh Kumar said. Mujeebuddin was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
A case under Section 304-a (negligence causing death) has been registered against the college management. No arrest has been made but police are trying to find out who is responsible for the practicals being conducted outside the campus.
