PR engineer caught taking bribe

Hyderabad, December 31: An executive engineer of Panchayat Raj department was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) department today.

The EE of Panchayat Raj Department in Kakinada division of East Godavari district, B Narsimha Reddy, was caught redhanded by the ACB officials at his office in Kakinada today when he took Rs 7,000 bribe from a person to pass bills as final payment pertaining to the four civil works executed by the latter.

Narsimha Reddy would be arrested and produced before a special court for ACB cases in Vijayawada, an official release said.

Meanwhile, the ACB officials conducted a surprise check on the social welfare boys hostel for SCs in T P Gudur of Nellore district yesterday night.

Various irregularities pertaining to attendance, menu, stock of provisions were unearthed. The Hostel Welfare Officer and other staff members were found absent from duty.

ACB officials also found that the official records were not maintained properly.

Meanwhile, the panchayat secretary of Utukuru village in Pamidi mandal of Anantapur district, M Srinivasulu, was dismissed from service following his conviction in a ACB trap case. He was trapped by the ACB officials in 2002 when he took Rs 1,110 bribe from a person to issue documents of farmers of Gollapalli and Beechanapalli villages.

In a conviction, the ACB court sentenced the assistant project engineer, V Demudu, and assistant lineman, V Ramu, of the Anakapalle Rural Electricity Cooperative Society Limited at Parawada in Visakhapatnam district to one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 in a trap case.

The duo were trapped in 2004 when they took Rs 10,000 bribe from a person to give a three-phase electrical power service connection to a borewell dug in the agricultural land belonging to the latter’s father.
