AP Govt. / Power utilities are relentlessly putting all out efforts to restore the power supply which was drastically disrupted in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram & Srikakulam Districts due to Hudhud Cyclone and consequent gale and wind. As part of its sustained efforts, the officials and staff of power utilities are successfully restoring the power supply in a phased manner.
Ajay Jain, Secretary, Energy, who is reviewing the power restoration works along with K. Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO, MV Seshagiri Babu, CMD/APEPDCL at Visakhapatnam said power supply to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has been restored, which otherwise could have caused lot of loss of production. Ajay Jain and K. Vijayanand said the officials and workmen of APTRANSCO, APEPDCL, APSPDCL, Orissa and Tamilnadu are striving in coordination with the local people to restore the power supply to all the cyclone affected areas of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Districts. The power supply to Hospitals, Drinking Water Supply and Railway traction was restored on Wednesday evening. Power supply was restored to 3 Nos 220Kv SS, 12 Nos 132kv SS, 51Nos 33kv SS and 107Nos 11kv feeders were charged and planning to charge others at the earliest. 80,000 LT services were restored and balance LT services are planning to be completed at the earliest in Visakhapatnam city.
With the aid of Emergency Restoration System (ERS), power supply restoration works are being expedited. 2500 technical personnel from SPDCL and 500 from Orissa were mobilized for restoration work. Tamilanadu Government has also sent their technical staff for restoration work. 1000 members are working in Visakhapatnam rural and urban areas 1500 were deployed to Vizianagaram and others are working in Srikakulam for restoration of work. All out efforts are being made to restore power supply in Vizianagaram. Power supply in Srikakulam is almost all completed. All the 33/11 kv substations are rectified. Efforts are being taken for drawing Power from Orissa Govt. They were trying to restore power supply to four towers which collapsed. The towers would help restore power to some parts of Vizianagaram. Due to heavy damage, restoration works are being delayed. Power supply will be restored soon in Visakhapatnam Rural areas. Restoration of feeder in Agency areas will be taken up soon after road routes are cleared. (NSS)
