Power supply back at Niloufer Hospital

Hyderabad, November 23: As many as 100 patients and their attendants had spent Sunday under tree shade at the Niloufer Hospital due to a day-long power cut.

However, they heaved a sigh of relief after the management restored power supply to all hospital blocks at night. Two children died allegedly due to power shutdown reported on Sunday.

“We spent most of the day under the tree and the child started screaming due to humidity. Power was finally restored around 8 p.m,” S Lakshmni, an attendant told Expresso.

Meanwhile, Dr P Sudershan Reddy, hospital superintendent said they had stopped power supply to three wards where about 100 patients were undergoing treatment. He added a 125 KV generator had been arranged to supply uninterrupted power to the emergency ward.

Dismissing reports about two deaths due to power shutdown, Reddy said a seven-year-old girl, suffering from HIV/AIDS died around 4.45 p.m on Sunday, due to severe malnutrition.

The deaths were reported from the new building.

“Giving advance notices to three wards and one critical ward located at the old building, we took up renovation works for installing new electricity plates to replace 60-yearold electricity material. We are spending `2 lakh for infrastructure development.

Hence, power supply was temporarily affected.

But all three deaths were reported from the new building due to bad health conditions,’’ he reiterated.

Dr Reddy said they had initiated repair works after taking approval from the Andhra Pradesh Health, Medical Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APHMHIDC). “A section of TV channels are deliberately creating furore by giving false breaking news on baby deaths,’’ he added.
