Power situation in J-K to be improved: Omar

Srinagar, October 26: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said efforts were afoot to upgrade and improve the power distribution and transmission system in the state.

“Government is vigorously following the power generation schemes to bridge the gap between availability and demand,” Abdullah said reviewing the progress of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) at a high level meeting here.

“A dependable power distribution network to ensure proper supply of electric energy and reduce the transmission losses is imperative,” he said.

The Chief Minister said power requirement for agriculture and irrigation sectors besides industrial units could be met under the scheme.

“We can also benefit information technology, healthcare, education and other related sectors under RGGVY”, he said and asked the Power Development Department to accelerate work on all the 14 projects covered under the scheme.
