The power supply in the national capital, which had to bear the brunt of power blackout for the second consecutive day yesterday due to failure of the northern grid was fully restored by 1900 hrs, a Delhi Transco official said. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, while regretting the inconvenience to Delhiites due to power outages,reviewed the situation throughout the day along with Power Minister Haroon Yusuf.
Since the fault occurred outside Delhi region it was beyond the control of Delhi Transco and other Power Utilities of Delhi to do anything immediately. However, sincere efforts were made to restore the power supply as soon as possible,the Chief Minister said.
The power situation was normalized by 1900 hrs,a Transco official said.
The restoration of power in Delhi started at 1315 hrs with the synchronization of more units of Gas Turbine Power Station. The power supply to the essential services such as Delhi Metro, hospitals, water supply, etc were restored on priority. Delhi started getting power from Northern grid at 1410 hrs through 400 KV Agra – Ballabhgarh – Bamnauli line and we could extend power supply to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Railways and NDMC area,said Shakti Sinha, CMD, Delhi Transco Ltd.
The services of the Delhi Metro were restored on all lines by this evening.
Train services have been completely restored,a DMRC spokesperson said.
Before that at around 1310 hrs, due to northern grid failure all train services were suspended, entry to all stations stopped and Delhi metro trains were brought to nearest station for evacuation.
It was the second consecutive day of ‘power shock’ for the lakhs of commuters of the Delhi Metro as the collapse of the Northern Grid for the second consecutive day brought services of the Metro to a standstill.
The collapse of the Northern Grid also affected the movement of trains in the National Capital region.
A Northern Railways spokesperson said the collapse also affected movement of over 40 trains operating in the NCR region, including the local trains.
The operations at the International airport, however,remained unaffected.
