The BJP today held the Centre responsible for power grid collapse for two consecutive days, asserting the grid failure is a result of “negligence, incompetence and complete abdication of duty” on the part of the government.
“The unprecedented grid failure is a result of negligence, incompetence and complete abdication of duty on the part of the Central government. The Central government is also hiding some important facts which are the real cause of the grid failure,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.
He alleged that the Centre, instead of accepting its ‘follies’, is diverting the attention of the country by blaming some states for overdraw.
Mr Javadekar said the BJP believes that this failure is the result of regulatory or administrative failure than the technical failure.
He also said the main opposition party BJP will raise this issue in the upcoming Parliament session so as to bring out truth behind this worst failure.
The BJP MP said the enquiry committee, constituted by former Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who has now been given the charge of Home Ministry, should enquire into different issues.
“If the Grid Code would have been followed, the catastrophe could have been avoided. Why Grid Code was not strictly adhered to? Whether it was a case of overdraw at the wee hours on Sunday or was it a case of over supply having frequency of 50+?” he asked.
Mr Javadekar said if it was a case of overdraw then why ‘under frequency relay’ did not work and if it was a case of more supply and more frequency then why ‘over frequency relay’ did not work.
He alleged that the Central government did not complete its 11th Five Year Plan as far as standardisation and integration of the modules in 16 states is concerned, which would have enabled load balancing.
“Why only Rs 1,000 crore were spent under this programme though the budget was Rs 16,000 crore?” he asked.
Mr Javadekar added that the Central government has not resolved the complaints of the various states about the ‘discrimination’ of the Central quota of power.
On Monday, the Northern Grid collapsed, plunging 300 million people in darkness. On Tuesday three grids- Northern, Eastern and North Eastern– collapsed effecting 19 states and 600 million people without power for many hours.
