Power Failure Leaves Sharjah Tower Residents in the Dark

Sharjah, December 10: Residents of 70 apartments of Dana Tower at Al Buhairah Corniche complained of power outages in their apartments from the early hours
of Sunday.

According to residents, electricity has been cut to the apartments on floor 32 to 44 in the tower.

Residents said they spoke to the tower management who said there was a power failure and it would take some time to repair it.

The management said they could not specify when the power would be restored to the apartments.

Mohammed Amin, a resident said the families face many difficulties as a result of the power cuts.

“The average rental apartment where they live, range from Dh120,000 to Dh130,000 annually and the management of the tower has failed to provide the basic services,” Amin said.

Maha, a housewife, said they were forced to wash their clothes by hand.

“We have to light candles for children to study and to carry out basic domestic tasks,” said Maha.

Nabil Saadi, manager of the tower’s property management company, said power supply had been cut since 3am on Sunday. He would not give the name of the company.

Saadi said a leak in the drinking water pump had made walls wet on floors 32 to 44. To prevent any short circuit, the power was cut on these floors. The floors include 70 apartments of which about 45 are inhabited by families.

He said the fault was not due to a lack of maintenance but a mistake in the water pipe’s installation that will be looked into to prevent problems
in future.

Saadi said the building management repaired the pump problem and was supplying some apartments with power through extension cords.

The elevators of the building and existing services continue to
operate normally.

Saadi said the building management was working to address the problem but did not know when the repairs would be finished.
