Hyderabad, July 05: As four power production units are experiencing technical problems, the APTransco is forced to go for loadshedding resulting in two to four-hour power cuts in the State for the last two days.
The power cuts may continue for another two days till the problems are overcome.
Ironically, while the distribution companies have announced that power cuts have been in force feederwise, senior officials have been denying any power shutdown. The Transco has to depend on the thermal and gas power generation units to meet its demand for some more time as hydel power generation is not possible in near future with monsoon playing truant.
According to officials, power supply in the State has come down to 192 million units per day owing to decreased production as against the demand of over 210 mu. Officials put the shortfall in power generation at 1,000 MW due to problems in the Simhadri power project, three units of KTPC and one unit in Talcher.
Gowtami gas-based power project is producing only half of its capacity of 440 MW. Though the Transco is buying about 500 MW from the NTPC compensating 10 million units, still there is shortage of about 500 MW in the State. On the other hand, the continuing dry spell is keeping the power demand high adding to the problems of the Transco.
Transco Joint Managing Director Vijayanand said power generation would improve in a couple of days and normal supply would be restored by Monday night or by Tuesday.
