Admitting that there was a huge gap between the demand and supply of power in the State, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today assured that all necessary steps have been taking to tide over the tide over the power shortage in the State. Addressing a press conference over the power situation in the State at the State Secretariat here, Mr.Reddy claimed that the power crisis had cropped up mainly due to dwindling water inflows in hydel dams and shortage of gas and coal supply to power plants. Agitations would not solve the problems and appealing to the opposition parties to cooperate with the government, the Chief Minister said the state was producing 212 million units, including purchasing from other states against 234 MU produced in last year.
However, the demand for power per day stood at 260 million units taking the shortage to 48 million units per day, he said.
The state was spending Rs 15 crore per day to purchase 28.6 million units from other States to avoid invonvience to the consumers and meet the demand. UNI
