Positive steps necessary to restore confidence among the Muslims

Hyderabad, December 16: Muslim youths who were victimised by the police after mthe Makka Masjid bomb blast met Mr.Wajahat Habibullah, Chairman, National Minorities Commission and garlanded him for his laudable efforts in
getting them compensations from the Govt. of A.P. They requested him
to invite the attention of the Govt of A.P. For implementing the
other four recommendations suggested by the Central Minorities
Commission.

The Muslim also presented a memorandum to him depicting the steps
taken by the Govt. of A.P. for the payment of compensation. The youths
said that the steps taken by the Central Minorities Commission are very encouraging. On account of these recommendations, they have a feeling that trust and confidence could be built among the Muslims.

On this occasion, Mr.Wajahat Habibullah told tje Muslim youths that it is for the first time in the history of Independent India that compensation was paid to the victims of harrassment which is an exemplary step for which the Govt. of A.P.should be appreciated.

He said that the Central Minorities Commission acted on the basis of the recommendations of the State Minoroties Commission. Present on this occasion were Mr.Yousuf Hashmi,former Chairman, State Minorities Commission, Mr.Syed Tariq Quadri,former member, State Minorities Commission and others. On this occasion, Mr.Zahid Ali Khan, Editor,Siasat, desired the Chairman to impress upon the Govt. of A.P. for the implementation of the remaining four recommendations.

He arranged the meeting of the family members of former police constable Mr.Mohammed Abdul Quadeer who is in prison for the past 21 years whereas the duration of the life sentence is reckoned as fourteen years imprisonment. The family members of Quadeer requested the Chairman to intervene for his release from jail on compassionate grounds.

Mr.Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, Managing Editor,Siasat, explained the deterioration of Waqf properties and the cold attitude of the State Govt. He said that if the Central Minorities Commission recommends, properties worth crores of rupees would be got back from the illegal occupants which would improve the financial condition of many Muslims. The parents of the victims met the Chairman and garlanded him.
