Bangalore, July 22: Receiving tip-off of books publicising Naxalism, cops get hands on obscene material

A raid carried out by the Upparpet police for books favouring Naxals, went wayside when the cops found books containing obscene images instead.

Around 11 pm last night, cops raided R K bookshop at Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation Bus stand, Majestic area, after they received a tip-off that the shop contained books supporting the Naxal propaganda.

However, officials found books containing pornographic images and text worth Rs 20,000.

The police have arrested Rafik (37), Jamal (26) and Afzal (28), who hail from Beltangadi village situated
in Udupi.

However, shop owner Shabbir managed to escape successfully.

Authorities are eager to nab Shabbir, as he is believed to have links with Karnataka Forum for Dignity, which is supposed to have close connections to the banned outfit Student Islamic Movement of India.

Upparpet Police Inspector Lokeshwar said, “The store has been selling such books for the last two years. We are hopeful that we will arrest him.”
