Bhopal, April 04: The population of Madhya Pradesh stands at 7.25 crore comprising 3.76 crore males and 3.49 crore females as per the provisional figures of the Census released today.
The Census findings show the growth in population slowing down during the last decade and overall gender ratio showing improvment but the child sex ratio has deteriorated further.
Director for Madhya Pradesh Census Sachin Sinha told reporters here that as per provisional figures, Indore was the most densely populated district with a population of 32.72 lakh while Harda with population of 5.70 lakh was the least populated district in the state.
The Director said that the population growth rate during 2001-11 had gone down to 20.3 per cent from 24.3 per cent during the 1991-2001 period.
