Former minister and BC leader Ponnala Lakshmaiah will be the new PCC Chief for Telangana State while N. Raghuveera Reddy has been appointed president of PCC of Seemandhra State. AICC president Sonia Gandhi reportedly telephoned to Raghuveera Reddy and congratulated him for his new post.
The Centre, after hectic parleys with leaders of the both regions and Botcha, who is in Delhi now, is said to have taken a decision to make it big in general elections besides giving a tough fight during municipal elections. It seems that the Congress has taken a calculated step to rope in a BC leader like Lakshmaiah and whose candidature can fetch majority of votes during the general elections. Though the party high command considered the name of former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha for Telangana PCC, later he was asked to lead the Election Campaign Committee, it is learnt.
The Congress is all set to woo its Telangana leaders and roping in them for political campaign in the region. Former minister D Sridhar Babu will lead the election committee and Utham Kumar Reddy will head manifesto committee in Telangana for the general elections. In similar manner, the AICC is said to have prepared a list of seniors, who can do better in the elections in the Seemandhra region. According to information, Union Minister K Chiranjeevi is likely to head the Election Campaign Committee in Seemandhra.
It may be recalled that senior leaders like V Hanumanth Rao, K. Jana Reddy and Danam Nagender in Telangana, N Raghuveera Reddy, Kanna Lakshminarayana and others in Seemandhra tried for top posts and Raghuveera Reddy emerged the winner for Seemandhra PCC chief post. Since the AICC is planning to make use of their services in a way that make better the prospects of the Congress in the ensuing elections, sources said. (NSS)
