Hyderabad, September 25: Congress MLC and AICC Secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy requested the Centre to allocate more gas to the gas-based power plants in the State to meet the shortage of power supply that has arisen due to the on-going general strike in the Telangana region.
Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Sudhakar Reddy said that he had made a representation to Union Petroleum and Gas Minister S Jaipal Reddy seeking additional allocation of gas for the power plants in the State. He said that instead of resorting to power-cuts, the State Government should make alternate arrangements to ensure that farmers in the State are provided seven hours of power supply.
The Congress MLA slammed the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for not postponing the Group-I examinations. He said due to Telangana agitation, thousands of students from the region would not be able to appear for the exam. Therefore, the exams must be postponed to an appropriate date.
Sudkhakar Reddy also appealed to the Chief Minister, PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raj Narasimhan to pressurise the Centre to take an early and favourable decision on Telangana. He said all the three leaders have been maintaining silence and did not make any representation with the Centre about the factual position of Telangana agitation. The party High Command must be briefed and convinced about the consequences of delaying the decision on Telangana statehood, he said.
