Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday demanded that the Telangana Government convene an all-party meeting to discuss the sharing of water from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Ponguleti alleged that Andhra Pradesh utilised an additional 30 TMC of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar. Demanding that further supply of water be stopped for Andhra Pradesh, he said that the Nalgonda and Khammam districts should be supplied water for irrigation and drinking water needs on immediate basis. He alleged that the AP Government has been trying to deprive Telangana its share of water.
Ponguleti informed that he had spoken to Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao about the issue and urged him to take an all party delegation to the Centre. Accusing AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of taking wrong advantage of his relations with the Centre, he urged the Telangana TDP leaders to stage a dharna at Naidu’s residence to express protest against his attitude. He also questioned the silence of BJP over the injustices being done to Telangana State and asked the Telangana unit of BJP to pressurise the Central Government on the issue. (INN)
