Pondy varsity to become ‘largely greener’

Puducherry, September 05: As many as 2,200 saplings of 36 varieties of trees would be planted at the premises of Pondicherry University at Kalapet near here, under a project to make the area ‘largely greener’.

The project would be launched on September seven by Professor J A K Tareen, VC of the university.

The university, which was established under an Act of Parliament in 1985, was situated over an 800 acre-land, provided by the Puducherry administration.

The red soil, which is available in the entire belt of Kalapet, a nearby coastal village, is highly suitable for horticulture, an official in the agriculture department here said.
