Pondy DMK seeks Rajya Sabha seat

Puducherry, June 23 : The Puducherry unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today sought the lone Rajya Saba seat for the party, which fell vacant following the election of Mr Narayansamy to the Lok Sabha.

In a resolution adopted at the executive committee meeting of the party here, it pointed out that the DMK was supporting the Congress and had strve hard for the victory of the DPA candidate V Narayanasamy in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

In order to strengthen the alliance and relationship with the Congress and for the development of the party here, the Rajya Sabha seat should be allocated to the DMK, the meeting said.

It was also decided to press DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Mninister M Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin in this regard.

Resolutions congratulting Mr Stalin on his elevation as Deputy Chief Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Mr Karunanidhi for striving for the formation of a secular Government at the Centre, and all the Union Ministers of the DMK and Mr Narayansamy on their victory in the elections were adopted in the meeting.

Another resolution urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to implement the election promises like special category status, One kg rice for One rupee, among others things.
