Dehradun, May 01: The ban on polythene has been carried out in some districts of the state and in a recnt development Uttarkashi district has banned the use of polythene during the duration of the oncoming Chardham Yatra. The state government is now mulling complete ban on polythene in the whole state in due course of time.
The Sparsh Ganga campaign of the state government which has been led by the chief Minister himself is focused on removal of garbage including polythene from near the river beds. In Dehradun too, the district administration has imposed ban on the sale of polythene less than 20 microns but it the sale and use of polythene has not been affected despite this.
The ban has also been affected in the district of Nainital and Champawat. Recently the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi banned the use of polythene during the duration of the Chardham Yatra from May 16 to October 22.
The agriculture minister of the state Trivendra Singh Rawat who has been spearheading he campaign against polythene in the state has said that the government is working on the modalities of the ban and it may come into effect some time later.
