By-polls were not a referendum, says Sabitha

Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Sunday said that the Congress party suffered a major defeat in the recent by-elections due to various factors and certain prevailing conditions in the State.

Talking to media persons, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that the by-elections were not a referendum on the functioning of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy government and the ruling Congress party. “The party was defeated in the hands of YSR Congress party due to certain prevailing conditions in the State,” she said. She also expressed confidence that the Congress party would regain its strength in the general elections to be held in 2014 and win majority of seats.

Sabitha said that she was ready to cooperate with the CBI investigations pertaining to disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. She said that the CBI has already given a clean chit to her in connection with Obulapuram Mining Corporation’s illegal mining scam.

The minister said that the police department has taken up a massive drive to recruit 20,000 constables and all steps have taken to maintain transparency in the recruitments. “The recruitments will be made without giving room for any suspicion,” she said.
