Targeting the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana has said that by-elections in the State became necessary because of the selfish politics of some people.
Addressing the SC Cell executive here on Saturday, he said that Opposition parties had no role other than criticizing the government. He advised the people not to believe the allegations being made by the Opposition parties.
Botcha exhorted party cadres not to despair, by stating that the future was theirs. He said they could go to the people and courageously ask for their votes as the government was implementing various welfare schemes. Defending the selection of candidates, Botcha said that those who work for the party alone would get party tickets in elections. He said that it was Congress that was capable of protecting the individual honour and rights of the Dalits and other weaker sections. He said that it was unfortunate that some parties were causing by-elections again and again when people were suffering from major problems like water and power shortage.
Explaining about changes made in the final list of party candidates, Botcha said that these changes became necessary in view of some local conditions. He said only Congress could ensure safety of the Dalits and asked the workers to courageously face the voters.
Addressing the meeting, AICC secretary Krishna Murty said that valuable public money was being wasted on conducting elections again and again because of the resignations of sitting members. He told the party workers to explain why these elections became necessary and ask for their votes. He exuded confidence that Congress party would turn victorious in the ensuing by-elections. He advised party cadres to take the by-polls as a challenge.
Referring to the criticism being leveled against the Congress government by the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu, Krishna Murty said that though he has borrowed Rs 60,000 crores from the World Bank, he could not do any good to the people. He sarcastically said that TDP workers, who were moving on bicycles, could purchase cars during TDP rule and nothing else was achieved to improve the lot of the people. (NSS)
