Washington, March 31: A national telephone survey on some 3,500 US participants shows that the majority of Americans believe their country is moving in the wrong direction.
The survey, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, indicates that only 23 percent of the US voters, as of March 20, 2011, supported their country’s political, financial and social behavior. Though, 71 percent of them believed that the US was heading in the wrong direction.
Some 52 percent of the nation’s Democrats, 88 percent of its Republicans, and 74 percent of voters not affiliated with either of the two ruling parties share the belief that the country is heading towards the wrong direction.
Before Barack Obama took power in 2009, less than 20 percent of the voters felt the country was heading in a positive path. The rate soon increased to 27 percent in the week of his inauguration.
This confidence among voters rose to 40 percent in early May, 2009.
President Barack Obama’s failure to take actions on his vows for change has declined his popularity rate from 67 percent to 47 percent, passing over the popularity to right-wing movements such as the Tea Party.
