Politicos make a beeline for deputy speaker

Hyderabad, April 26: It was a hectic day for Assembly deputy speaker Nadendla Manohar with a stream of politicians calling on him on various issues, ranging from seeking disqualification of MLAs, initiating privilege motions and constitution of house committee into allotment of lands made by the government in the past.

The day began with TDP rebel MLAs Y Bala Nagi Reddy (Mantralayam) and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy (Banswada), who received notices from the deputy speaker on disqualification issue, met him separately.

The two MLAs were issued show-cause notices by the speaker basing on a petition filed by the TDP seeking their disqualification for anti-party activities. Both the MLAs put forth their arguments against the petition before Manohar.

Speaking to reporters later, Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy said that he urged the deputy speaker to accept his resignation and do not disqualify him as an MLA.

“When I submitted my resignation in protest against the TDP’s policy on Telangana issue, where was the case for disqualification,” he asked.

Bala Nagi Reddy, who is a supporter of YSR Congress party, also met Manohar. This fuelled speculation that he may shift his loyalty to Congress.

PRP MLAs Vanga Geeta and Kanna Babu too met the deputy speaker. The two rebel PRP MLAs had recently said they were opposing the merger of PRP in the Congress and wanted to remain as MLAs outside the PRP.

“Party leadership would take a decision at an appropriate time for filing disqualification petition against two MLA,” Geeta told media persons.

Meanwhile, Rebel TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy and TDP Legislature Party deputy leader and MLA K Hareeshwar Reddy called on the deputy speaker and discussed moving privilege motion against Srikrishna Committee members for their comments and suggestions in the eighth chapter of the report.

While this is so, a delegation of 11 Left parties met the deputy speaker and submitted a memorandum for constitution of House Committee on allotment of lands by the government in the past.

CPM state secretary B V Ragahvulu and CPI state committee member and former MLA K Ramakrishna and several other’s were among the delegation that met the deputy speaker.
