Politicians demand probe into killing of police officer in UP

New Delhi/Deoria/Bhopal, Mar.5 (ANI): Politicians have demanded a probe into the killing of senior police officer Zia-ul-Haq and denounced the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.
Minister of State for Home Ratanjit Pratap Narain Singh said on Tuesday said that state governments are responsible for the security of their policemen.

“It is the responsibility of state governments to ensure the security of their policemen. If any unfortunate incident occurs, then all state governments should conduct a probe and should take a strict action against the accused,” said Singh in New Delhi.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq was murdered by unknown miscreants on March 2 along with two other police personnel at Balipur village in Pratapgarh District of the state during violence that followed the murder of the village head.

Haq”s family had accused former Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, of killing him.

Singh was asked to resign after his name emerged in connection with the murder.

Haq”s body was buried only after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav personally met his family and assured them of a CBI inquiry.

Congress Party spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary, expressing her concern over the incident, said: “Just as much as we condemn the police, we also stand by the police. When they are wrong we condemn them, but when they are right, or when they are killed unnecessarily, it is a matter of great concern for us and our heart felt sympathy for the family. They are our allies and I am sure they have expressed regret and they have now taken corrective steps and they doing and looking into the matter.”

Youth Congress activists protested against the ruling Samajwadi Party Government in the state’s Gorakhpur District.

Samajwadi Party lawmaker Ram Gopal Yadav said the matter was being handed over to the CBI and it would take further action against the culprits.

Echoing similar views, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh said: “An in-depth investigation should take place, and, it is true that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh is deteriorating. The law and order situation deteriorates whenever the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) or the Samajwadi Party (SP) forms the government.”

Raja Bhaiya has had a long criminal record in the state and it has been alleged to be involved in several illegal activities.

The case has brought forth the grim law and order situation in the state, which has been under fire ever since the Samajwadi Party (SP) came to power. (ANI)
