In an unexpected development, Mr. Rakesh Maria was on Tuesday replaced as the Mumbai Police Commissioner and was elevated to DG-rank. Mr. Ahmed Javed has now taken over as the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
Although, Mr. Rakesh Maria’s term as Mumbai Police Commissioner was to expire on 30th September but as he was probing Sheena Bora Murder Case, the transfer is seem to be politically motivated.
Sources also claim that the actual reshuffle was meant to prevent Mr. Ahmed Javed from being promoted to DG of Anti-Corruption as many leaders of one of the main political parties of Mumbai had graft cases against them and they din’t want Mr. Ahmed Javed to investigate the cases against them. It was also learnt that this political party met Mumbai CM, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis where the reshuffling was finalized to safeguard the interests of the leaders of that political party.
