Political leaders strive to hinder appointment of special officer in Waqf Board

Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board has completed its term four days ago and as per the new Waqf Act no extension can be made further. In this case a special officer is appointed to run the board affairs or a 3-member adhoc committee is formed but the appointment of a special officer in this Muslim institution is being strongly opposed.

Interestingly some ministers, including minority welfare Minister Mr. Ahmedullah, MPs, MLAs and some influential political leaders, earnestly wish that instead of appointing a special officer, a 3-member adhoc committee is formed. The question arises why these people are against the appointment of a special officer? What interest they have in Waqf Board?

Common Muslims don’t hesitate to say publicly that the state Waqf Board is like gold mine for the opportunist politicians. The waqf properties have become a source to boost their bank balance. Sources say that vested interest have illegally occupied many such properties. If a scrupulous special officer is appointed, he can land them into trouble. Instead if a 3-member team is formed no one will ever dare to raise voice against illegal occupation on Waqf Properties.
