‘Political khichdi’: JD(S) spokesman Kunwar Danish Ali joins BSP with mutual consent of parties

New Delhi: Kunwar Danish Ali, the JDS’s face in New Delhi for over 20 years has made a political switch to join the BSP in Lucknow on Saturday. It must be recalled that he emerged as the kingmaker during the high-stakes Karnataka state elections in 2018. He held several backdoor discussions for Congress and JDS in Karnataka, before stitching an alliance. Considered a close aide to JDS patriarch, HD Deve Gowda, Danish Ali was the general secretary and national spokesperson of the JDS.

Ali was welcomed in BSP by its supremo Mayawati and other BSP leaders. He is likely to contest from Amroha constituency as BSP’s Muslim candidate.

India Today has quoted Danish Ali as saying, “I never asked for anything even when I was in the JDS. It was up to HD Deve Gowda ji to decide what work to assign me. I have come here after taking his blessings and permission. I will work wherever Behenji assigns me.”

Endorsing Ali’s claim, Chief Minister Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy tweeted: “Danish Ali, the JDS general secretary, has joined BSP in consent with me and our national president Sri HD Deve Gowda in a purely political arrangement between the two parties. It is a thoughtful political decision taken by the JDS and the BSP to win more seats in the LS polls.”
