Policeman nabbed on charge of accepting bribe

Chandigarh: Sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Nabha in Patiala district, while allegedly accepting a bribe.

On Harinderpal Singh’s complaint, ASI Tehal Singh, posted at Kotwali police station, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 35,000, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said.

Harinderpal had complained to the bureau that the ASI was demanding Rs 40,000 for presenting cancellation report against an FIR in his favour in the court.

After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the ASI was arrested, the spokesperson said.

A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ludhiana and further investigations was underway, he said.
