Hyderabad: As the Eid-ul-Azha (the festival of sacrifice) coincides with Ganesh festival this year, police are spending sleepless nights due to proliferation of stray dogs. Higher officials of twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad are apprehensive that if any stray dog picks up the meat or animal waste and drops it near any Ganesh mandal, the situation may become volatile. South Zone police has directed to be vigilant against this and it has been directed to stop dogs from wandering near the Ganesh pandals because if the thrown away meet or animal wastes during Eid-ul-Azha reaches Ganesh mandap by the dogs it may create tension.
Such attempts were made in the past to disrupt peace by throwing meat near religious places of majority community. Sometimes youth belonging to majority community themselves were found involved in the miscreancy. But such act by dogs on the occasion of Eid ul Azha can create misunderstanding and become the cause of disrupting peace.
Meanwhile police department has appealed Muslims to take precaution during Eid-ul –Azha and use only the plastic bags provided for the purpose to dispose off animal wastes. Besides, authorities of Ganesh mandaps are directed to stop dogs from wandering near Ganesh mandaps as one act of dogs may destroy the enjoyment of festival.
