UP Police to verify Deoband, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar passport holders

Muzaffarnagar: With the recent arrests of two suspected Bangladeshi terrorists who successfully managed to get Indian Passports on the Deoband areas, the UP Police has spur into action after receiving directions and now will be verifying thousands of passport holders in Deoband area along with its neighboring regions and districts of Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar after speculations doing rounds about other nationals hiding in the Deoband city.

The UP Government has issued directions to all the DMs to action against illegally living Bangladeshi nationals in the state. The Government has also issued directions to take action against officials involved in the activity of providing these Bangladeshi nationals with ID cards.

DIG KS Emmanuel Saharanpur speaking to the sources said, “It’s not only about Deoband or any particular community. The verification of passport holders will take place in entire Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur owing to inputs we have received that a few terror modules could be hiding in the area” adding that, men with questionable credentials were found in the city on many occasions in the past.

DIG also revealed that suspected Bangladeshi terrorist got his passport made in Saharanpur. The Bangladeshi national was recently arrested from Muzaffarnagar. He said, “So we are just being cautious and improving the mechanism of inquiry by verifying all passport holders in the region. We cannot take chances when it comes to security”.

Bangladeshi national Abdullah Al-Mamon who was arrested in August this year is a suspected member of a banned terror outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). He was staying in Deoband for several years before his arrest. The Police later arrested many other nationals who took shelter in the same area.

The UP ATS in October this year alerted the areas of the prime key recruiter of the terror group Faizan Ahmad who was absconding. Faizan is also accused of leading youths into terrorism.

In a raid at Faizan’s Saharanpur lodging the UP ATS recovered many Islamic State literature and other things as well.

Nearly 20 suspected Bangladeshi nationals are missing since the arrests have been made in the region.

The Government has made the verification matter important and of topmost urgent matter, since it has been learned that various officials are involved in helping these nationals get an Indian passport.

According to the sources, a sub-inspector and a constable are suspected to be involved in the illegal activity.
