New Delhi, November 24: The Uttar Pradesh Police deployed at the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri mosque complex had their sympathies for RSS and VHP preachers which turned them into “uniformed karsevaks” rather than protectors of the disputed structure, the Liberhan Commission said.
The Commission rapped then chief minister Kalyan Singh for replacing then administrative and police officers who were against any change in status quo or demonstrated “slightest hesitation” in conniving with karsevaks.
After the 17-year-long probe in the demolition of the Babri mosque in 1992, the Commission concluded security apparatus in the state was “theoretically or on paper” capable of handling any situation arising of “emotional, political, communal and religious” fervour which had gripped Ayodhya.
