Police submit Hardik’s voice report over sedition charge

Surat: Gujarat Police, which arrested Patel reservation agitation convener Hardik Patel on sedition charges, on Wednesday said a voice spectrography test conducted by forensic experts has concluded that it was he who advised a youth to kill policemen instead of committing suicide.

Police on Wednesday submitted the voice test report at a Surat district court to oppose Hardik Patel’s bail application.

Police said the sedition charge on the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener stayed since a compact disc which officials presented as evidence contained Patel’s voice provoking his supporter Vipul Desai to kill a couple of policemen instead of committing suicide.

Patel was arrested on the basis of his recorded message collected by police.

In early October, Patel had visited the home of Surat youngster Vipul Desai, along with a TV channel reporter, and asked him not to resort to extreme steps in support of the reservation demand.

“Patels never commit suicide fighting for their cause. Instead, go kill a policeman or two instead,” he told the youth.

The comment went viral on social media after the TV channel telecast the event.

Policemen in the state were attacked, and Hardik Patel and some of his associates were arrested under sedition charges, first in Surat and later in Ahmedabad.

A petition challenging the charge is pending with the Gujarat High Court, which took a stance that the case would continue till police completed their investigation.
