The BJP today alleged that police stations are turning into “center of murders” under Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government in Uttar Pradesh and demanded the Chief Minister to take strict action in this regard.
“Police stations in the state are turning into center of murders in Akhilesh regime, which it claims to be cases of suicide,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said while talking to reporters here.
He claimed that a number of custodial deaths have taken place in the recent past.
“Whether its Sitapur or Barabanki, instead of giving assurances, the CM should have taken stern action,” he said.
Pathak said that Barabanki police, which was already in dock for ‘immolating’ a woman, was again under scanner following suspicious death of a Dalit youth inside lockup yesterday.
“While police claim that the youth committed suicide, the circumstances do not support their theory. While the youth was six feet tall, the iron grill on which he was found hanging was only five and a half feet,” he said.
“BJP demands that instead of overlooking such incidents the government should take stern action against the guilty policemen,” he added.
