Police sifting call details on cell phones

Hyderabad, March 14: With the closed-circuit TV cameras installed at various points on the Tank Bund and the media cameras and other cameras hired by the police being damaged by arsonists during the Million March on March 10, the police are left with no recorded evidence to nab those involved in the destruction of statues and attacks on political leaders, medipersons and policemen.

According to a senior police officer, the police arrested about 60 persons from the Tank Bund area on that day and seized 54 cell phones from them. Left with no other means, police are now sifting the telephone calls made and received on those cell phones in an attempt to zero in on others involved in the violence.

“We will take the details of the calls that were made from their mobile phones particularly those which were made from the Tank Bund and nearby areas.

All the calls that went from the nearby mobile phone towers would be analysed,” the officer said.

As police came to the conclusion that people from Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts participated in the march and were involved in the vandalism, the calls made to people of those places would be traced and the persons concerned questioned.

The Hyderabad city police will coordinate with their counterparts in the above-mentioned districts to track the accused.

“We also want to find out how the protesters managed to come in large numbers despite heavy police bandobust,” the officer said.

“It seems a well-planned attack and we want to verify how and where the participants gathered, how they sneaked onto the Tank Bund breaking the police cordon and other aspects,” sources said.
