Kadapa, April 07: Yet again, a huge amount of cash, `51 lakh, being carried without proper documentation was seized at two different places in Kadapa district on Thursday, three days ahead of the bypolls.
Police suspect that the cash is meant for distribution to voters in Pulivendula Assembly and Kadapa Lok Sabha constituencies.
Kadapa one town circle inspector Ghouse, SI Srinivasulu and their men conducted vehicle checks at the Seven Road Junction in the town and found one Subramanyam Swamy carrying `37 lakh in his car.
Swamy was on his way to Proddatur and on being questioned, said a prominent leader in Proddatur was getting the amount from Kadapa. According to sources, in the preliminary inquiry, he had reportedly revealed that he was from Kamalapuram and has close ties with Kamalapuram MLA G Veerasiva Reddy.
Police took Subramanyam Swamy, car driver Kumar and two others taken into custody.
In the other incident, Chinna Chowk CI Mehaboob Basha and SI Rehaman, on getting information that some activists were distributing money to voters in Muttarasupalle under Chinna Chowk police station limits, rushed to the spot and searched the house of Congressman Janardhan Naidu and one Narayana Reddy’s house. They seized `14 lakh unaccounted cash from the residence.
