Police seize marijuana worth Rs 24.80 lakh, arrest six

Mumbai, November 03: In one of the biggest hauls of marijuana (Ganja) in recent times, city police seized 12.40 quintals of the drug worth over Rs 24.80 lakh after busting an alleged inter-state racket and arresting six persons, including an former government employee and woman in this connection.

The alleged kingpin of the racket, Ravi, who is operating from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh and supplying the drug from there, is still at large, police said, adding some more are likely to be arrested in this case.

Acting on tip off, on Sunday police laid a trap near Vashi checknaka in neighbouring Navi Mumbai district and nabbed the accused identified as Gurmel Singh Hansraj (62), Balwinder Kala (45), Saji Jaklin Rose(34), Rinku Singh (35), Viju Nadar(37) and Shahida Sultana Shaikh (34). They have been remanded to police custody till November 8.
