North Carolina: Reports of an active shooter at Topsail High School in Hampstead are emerging, as local police have reached the scene and put the school on lockdown on Friday morning (local time).
Captain James Rowell from the Pender County Sherrif’s office states that it is an active scene, as movement to or from the school has been restricted. The police forces have surrounded the school premises. Children are being taken back home and there have no reports of any injury or casualty so far.
Fire-fighters and a bomb squad unit are on the scene as well, according to Sputnik who have quoted local media reports.
Sputnik has further quoted a local official while mentioning that a malfunctioning piece of equipment may have led to an active shooter ‘false’ alarm. The first call reporting the incident came at 6:30 am (local time). More updates are awaited on this developing story.
