Police register case against Minister, followers over temple row

The Banaraj Hills police today registered a case against Andhra Pradesh Minister for labour Danam Nagender and his followers for allegedly prevented cops from discharging their duty and misbehaved with a sub-inspector. According to police, various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and unlawful assembly were booked against the Minister and his supporters after they forcibly locked a Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple complex located at the posh locality of Banjara Hills. Mild tension gripped the area for some time when the Minister along with a group of followers reportedly warned the police against siding with the Hare Krishna movement, which claimed that the land around Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple was given to them on lease by the government. The Minister also strongly directed the police personnel to away from the temple site. Some local people said they had been demanding that the government cancel the lease as the land belonged to them. The case was registered on a complaint of a police sub-inspector, with whom the minister allegedly misbehaved. As precautionary measures, Policemen in large numbers were deployed at the temple premises to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, Hare Krishna movement leader S Chandradas alleged that the minister and his followers created ruckus and threatened the devotees present in the temple. His followers also damaged the undergoing construction works at the temple premises. The state Endowments department had allocated land for the movement on lease basis in 2009 and there was no connection with the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Mr Das added. UNI
