Police raid Asaram ashram, detain 150 followers

Ahmedabad, November 27: Police today raided Asaram ashram here and detained about 150 followers in the wake of a clash between them in Gandhinagar.

“We have detained around 150 persons from Asaram ashram in Motera during a search operation,” Gandhinagar DSP Piyush Patel told PTI.

However, no weapons or suspicious items were found from the ashram premises, he said.

Asaram followers had yesterday clashed with police after they were prevented from entering Gandhinagar collector’s office to submit a memorandum against an alleged “well-planned conspiracy” to frame their religious leader in an incident in which two boys of the ashram went missing and later their bodies were found on the banks of river Sabarmati last year.

About 20 policemen, including the Gandhinagar DSP, were injured in the attack. Besides, more than 20 police vehicles were also damaged.
