Police officer suspended for dereliction of duty

A police officer has been suspended for failing to nab robbers despite being on the spot when the crime was taking place. “Bopal Police Sub Inspector A S Ninama has been suspended for dereliction of duty. He reached the spot on time but did not take any action,” Inspector General (Ahmedabad Range) R B Brahmbhatt said. “He has been suspended and will be taken back only on merit pending completion of departmental proceedings,” Brahmbhatt added. A gang of robbers yesterday made away with cash and ornaments worth Rs 5.15 lakh from a bungalow in Shela village. Eye witnesses said that police, who had reached there after being alerted, seemed helpless and waited for the robbers to finish. According to the police, robbers smashed wall tiles and threw them at them. The issue was raised in the state Assembly today, with opposition Congress slamming the government over law and order situation. PTI
