Faizabad, May 01: A police officer allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, an official said.
Sarvesh Kumar, 32, a station house officer (SHO), shot dead himself inside his official residence in Patranga town.
“While we are yet to ascertain as to what prompted Sarvesh to take the extreme step, the ongoing investigations reveal he was depressed for the last few weeks,” Superintendent of Police Manik Chand told reporters in Faizabad, some 130 km from Lucknow.
A native of Kanpur, Sarvesh Kumar was posted in Faizabad in 2008. Around two months ago, he was given the charge of the Patranga police station.
