Hyderabad, September 26: Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy on Sunday stated that the police would not interfere with the Telangana agitation, if it goes on peacefully.
Talking to media persons, the DGP said that no untoward incident took place during the ‘Rail Roko’ agitation and there were no instances of damage to public or private property. Stating that the law and order in the State was in complete control, the DGP warned that the police would swing into action if the protests take violent turn. He said that the additional forces have been deployed as a precautionary measure to prevent untoward incidents.
Responding to police assault on the students of Nizam College, the DGP said that a high level enquiry committee has been set up to look into the issue. Based on the enquiry report, the errant officials would be punished as per law, he said.
The DGP also informed that the Centre has provided a pilotless helicopter to check Maoist activities in the state. The pilotless helicopter would be operated from Madhurapudi Airport in Rajahmundry from October to check naxal movement in Chintapalli area.
The DGP said that 800 Sub-inspector posts in the State would be filled soon. He also announced that the notification for 4,370 posts in the police department would be notified by December. He also advocated the need to revise the salaries of policemen, especially those in the lower rung.
Dinesh Reddy was hopeful of achieving a breakthrough in the Suri murder case in the next two-three days. He said the police have clear evidence that the prime accused in Maddela Cheruvu Suri murder case Bhanu Kiran was staying in the State.
